Glyders – Stone Shadow
Chicago’s Glyders hit their stride on “Stone Shadow,” the lead single from their upcoming album “Forever.” The track opens with Joshua Condon’s declaration: “Ain’t got no money / I just wanna have a ball” – a perfect summary of the band’s approach. His voice stays cool and measured while the rhythm section builds tension underneath.
The song pulls from T-Rex’s stomp and new wave’s shimmer, but Glyders make it their thing. Shimmering synths cut through the mix alongside sharp guitar breaks, creating something that feels both classic and immediate. It’s the sound of a band that’s found their chemistry after years of lineup changes.
Condon and bassist Eliza Weber started Glyders in 2014, but it wasn’t until drummer Joe Seger joined that everything clicked. Their 2023 debut “Maria’s Hunt” showed promise, but “Stone Shadow” suggests they’re ready for bigger stages. The track came together during extensive touring across the US and Europe, and you can hear that road-tested confidence in every riff.
Producer Cooper Crain helped capture the band’s full-throttle energy at Chicago’s Sweat Loge Studio. The result is a lean, hungry sound that doesn’t waste time getting to the point. “Forever” drops November 21st via Drag City – a perfect home for their blend of garage blues and psych-rock attitude.
